How to Tie a Fish Finder Rig
A fish finder rig is used to keep bait suspended off the bottom of a body of water to make it easier for fish to locate. Rigs can be tied in many ways and involve a variety of tackle, including bait, sinkers, swivels, hooks, leaders and bobbers. Different types of rigs are identified by the way they are tied together, and the size and type of tackle depend on what you are fishing for and the conditions you're fishing in. Fish finder rigs can be tied to work in freshwater lakes, ponds and inshore waterways.

1
Thread a sinker on the main fishing line of the rod and reel that is the lightest weight you can use that will still reach the bottom of the water. Slide a bead smaller than the sinker on the line and place the end of the line through one eye of a small swivel.
-
2
Tie the swivel onto the line with an improved clinch knot. Thread the line through the eye of the swivel and double it back through. Wrap the end around the line five or six times and hold the resulting coils in place with one hand. With the other hand, push the end of the line through the small loop right beside the eye and pull it back through the large loop. Pull the line tight against the eye of the swivel, making sure the coils don't overlap. Trim the extra line with nail clippers.

Feed 1 to 3 feet of fluorocarbon mono-filament leader line through the other eye of the swivel and tie it using an improved clinch knot. Tie a hook at the end of the leader line using the improved clinch knot and clip the excess line with nail clippers.

Place your choice of bait on the hook. Hook minnows through the mouth, leeches through the suckers and soft plastic artificial bait through the nose.
