How to Unlock a Wii V4
The Nintendo Wii is unable to perform many functions that a computer can, due to restrictions placed in the operating system. Will enthusiasts have added a "Homebrew" channel to their menu to allow for the addition of programs created by other Wii gamers; however basic restrictions are still in effect. To unlock these restrictions--which is to say, modify, the way the Wii's operating system functions--downgrade the firmware that the operating system uses. A few software files will be needed and are available at no cost, thanks to Wii enthusiasts. A few items from an electronics store will also be needed.

Prepare the SD Card

Download the firmware downgrade file and a firmware loader program, for example, MediaFire, to the desktop (see Resources). Double-click the firmware downgrade file to decompress it to a folder on the desktop. Double-click the firmware loader file to decompress it to a program on the desktop.

Insert an SD card into the SD card adapter. Insert the SD card adapter into an open USB port on the PC.

Double-click the firmware downgrade folder on the desktop to open its window. Drag all of the files from inside the window, with the exception of the "Read me" file, onto the icon of the SD card on the desktop. A copy progress bar will appear, fill in from right to left and then disappear. Repeat this procedure to copy the firmware loader program into the SD card.

Right-click the icon of the SD card and select "Eject" from the pop-up menu. Remove the SD card adapter from the PC's USB port. Remove the SD card from the SD card adapter.

Insert the SD card into the SD card slot on the side of the Wii. Turn the Wii on. Select the "Homebrew" menu icon on the main screen with the Wii remote. Press "OK" on the remote to activate the "Homebrew" channel.

Select the "Wad Manager" icon from the list of choices on the screen. Press the "A" button on the Wii remote. Select "IOS 250" from the choices presented and press the "A" button. Select the "SD Card" icon on the screen. Press the "A" button.

Select "ISO 249" from the list of choices that appear on a new screen. Press right on the Wii remote's direction pad until "Uninstall Wad" appears on the screen. Press the "A" button. Select "Exit" from the screen to return to the initial "Homebrew" screen.

Press the "Home" button on the Wii remote. Select "Launch Bootmii" from the choices presented on a new screen. Press "A." Select "Do not reload" from the list of choices presented on a new screen. Press "A." Select "Yes" from the confirmation window pop-up. Press "A." Select "Network installation" from the choices presented on a new screen. Press "A." Return to the initial "Homebrew" screen once a confirmation pop-up window appears on the screen and then disappears.

Select the firmware loader program from the choices presented on the screen. Press "A." Click "OK" in the confirmation window that appears. Press the "Home" button on the remote.

Select "AnyRegion Changer" from the choices presented on the screen. Press "A." Select "System Menu 3.2" or any "System Menu" that is less than "4." Click "Yes" in the confirmation window that appears.

Click "No" in the "Korean Disc support" confirmation window that appears. Click "Yes" in the "System Menu Hack" confirmation window that appears. Press the "Home" key twice on the remote.

Select "Reboot to System Menu" from the choices presented on the screen that appears. Click "OK" in the confirmation pop-up window that appears. Turn the Wii off after the screen has gone blank and it has rebooted to the main menu.

The procedure to add a "Homebrew" channel to the Wii's operating system will void any warranty that might be in place.
