Cover wire hangers to help decrease marks on clothing.

Most dry cleaners still use wire coat hangers. Some are covered with paper that advertises the dry cleaning establishment, but they all may eventually rust or discolor the garments on them. You can create a multitude of craft items with these hangers and thrift shops may take donations of them, but you can also enhance them and use them in your own closet. Covering them with yarn is one of the most popular ways to beautify them.

Instructions

    • 1

Tie the end of the yarn at the top of the coat hanger just beneath the curved hook end at the point where the wire is twisted. Leave a 3-inch tail of yarn hanging loose.

    • 2

Wrap the yarn around the coat hanger wire continuously until you have reached the starting point. Go completely around the wire again, wrapping it as you go.

    • 3

Tie the end of the yarn from the second wrap to the tail end of the first wrap. Tie the ends in a bow or tie a couple knots and trim the ends.

Tips & Warnings

  • This is a good way to use up scraps of yarn and have colorful hangers. Simply tie on each new color.
