How to Connect an MP3 Player to a CD Player Radio

You can use an auxiliary cable to use your MP3 player with your CD player's speakers.

MP3 players are commonly listened to with headphones, but sometimes hearing music through speakers is preferable. Unfortunately, speakers specifically for MP3 players can be expensive. You can use any CD player with speakers--even your car stereo--to play your MP3s, however, by connecting the MP3 player to it with an auxiliary cable or cassette adapter.

Things You'll Need

• CD player
• Auxiliary cable
• MP3 player

Instructions

1. Plug one end of the auxiliary cable into the auxiliary outlet. It is a small circle and usually labeled "AUX" or "MP3." If your CD player has neither, the headphone jack will work as well.

2. Plug the other end of the auxiliary cable into the headphone jack on the MP3 player.

3. Turn on the CD player and the MP3 player. Select the songs you want to hear on the MP3 player; they will play through the CD player's speakers.

Tips & Warnings

• Most CD players come with auxiliary cables, but if yours doesn't, you can easily purchase one.

• If your CD player also has a cassette deck, a cassette adapter will work as well. Plug the adapter into the headphone jack on your MP3 player and insert the cassette in the deck on the CD player.
