How to Fix an Overheating XBox

A problem encountered by many Xbox 360 owners is two red flashing lights, which indicates that the console is overheating. There are several different reasons why this can occur, most of which can be solved without too much difficulty. If your Xbox 360 console has overheated, it is important that you fix the problems quickly. If you don't, the internal components can become damaged and no longer work.

Things You'll Need

• Vacuum with hose attachment
• Clean, dry rag or washcloth

Instructions

1. Place your Xbox 360 console in a clean, dry area and position it upright, so you can access all the vents.

2. Wipe any surface dust away from the vent areas using a clean, dry rag or washcloth.

3. Turn on your vacuum cleaner and place the attachment at every vent opening to suck away any dust that may be blocking the vents.

4. Return your Xbox 360 console to the desired area, remove any objects that are within six inches or so of its vents, and consider leaving it in the upright position instead of the laying-down position. The upright position gives your Xbox 360 better access to fresh air and could prevent more overheating problems.

Tips & Warnings

• Make sure there are no discs in the Xbox 360 disc tray and unplug all the connected cords before moving your Xbox 360.

• Never place objects on your Xbox 360 console or next to the vents as this will restrict airflow.
