How to Fix an FTA Receiver

How to Fix an FTA Receiver thumbnail
You may run into problems when using an FTA satellite receiver.

FTA receivers, like other pay-to-use satellite receivers, may occasionally run into playback problems, preventing you from viewing the latest "free-to-air" programming on your television system. When this occurs, you need to troubleshoot the equipment to determine what exactly is causing the problem. If you don't, the FTA satellite receiver won't receive satellite content.

Instructions

    • 1

Upload the latest FTA files to the receiver. Without the information, the satellite receiver is unable to produce and obtain the programming. Navigate to the FTA website from which you purchased the FTA receiver, and then download the receiver files. Save the data to a USB flash drive, then plug the flash drive into the receiver to upload the contents.

    • 2

Look over the cable connections running from the FTA receiver to your television. If the cables are disconnected or not completely inserted into the equipment, you are going to lose both audio and video signals.

    • 3

Power down the FTA receiver and disconnect it from all hardware and the electrical outlet. This performs a hard reset. After a few minutes, connect the FTA receiver back to the TV and power outlet. Once on, the receiver now performs correctly.

    • 4

Look for any debris or other material covering the satellite dish's line of sight into the sky. If there is snow, leaves or other items stuck on the dish, the FTA receiver is unable to receive the programming signals. Remove this debris and the receiver returns to functioning correctly.
