A DVD recorder can record TV shows directly from your cable box.

It is possible to record cable programming to a DVD by using a DVD recorder. A DVD recorder enables the user to record whatever is playing through the cable box to a blank recordable DVD. The DVD can then be viewed at a later time. To transfer cable programming to a DVD, you need to set up the connection between the cable box and the DVD recorder.
