      Download and Install the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Modification Tools from the Resource provided. Run the executable file to launch the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

      Open the "Mission Editor" executable file from the Windows Start Menu. Click "Start" > "Program Files" > "Dawn of War Tools" > "Mission Editor." The custom map making utility will open in a new window.

      Click "File" > "New..." from the top pull-down menu of the application. A dialog box titled "New Scenario" will emerge. Select 256x256 for the "Terrain Size" and 2m as the "Cell Size." Press "OK" to create your new map.

      Press "Ctrl + K" to view the full extent of the map that you just created. The new file will consist of a square plane. Hold "Alt" and scroll in and out with your mouse wheel to zoom your viewport in and out.

      Create new starting point objects by using the Object Placement tool on the top toolbar of the application. From the side menu bar, select "Environment" > "Gameplay" > "Starting Position." Click onto your map in the viewport to place a starting position. Add as many starting positions as you expect to have players on your particular map.

      Use the Height Map Editor tool from the top toolbar to create the terrain. Adjust the parameters of your tool from the side menu to change aspects such as the brush size of your tool as well as the amount and strength of height adjustments. Use this tool to create mountains and valleys.

      Use the Impass Editor tool from the top toolbar when you have finished creating the map terrain. This tool determines what terrain can be passable and impassable during game play. It is important to create impassable terrain to establish order and organization within the map. Click and drag onto your viewport to paint the impassable terrain on your map. Adjust the "Passability" setting in the side menu to "Passable" and paint the terrain in which you want to allow units to play.

      Click "Scenario" > "Scenario Properties..." from the top pull-down menu. A new dialog box will appear in which you can name your customized map. Select "Multiplayer Map" from the "Map Type" drop-down menu, and click "OK" to save the changes to your map properties.

      Click "File" > "Save As..." from the top pull-down menu to save your custom map. Place it in your "My Mod" folder within your Dawn of War installation directory.
