How Should You Store Scones?

How Should You Store Scones? thumbnail
You can freeze scones for several months.

Making your own scones can be a fun and satisfying process that leads to an abundance of tasty, flaky treats. If you manage to resist the temptation of consuming them all immediately, storing your scones can become a concern. Even with ideal care, these delicate creations can taste stale after only a couple of days at room temperature. To keep them for longer, refrigerate them for up to a week or freeze them for up to three months. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cover your scones with a snug, airtight layer of plastic wrap if you want to keep them at room temperature. This will help keep them moist and flaky, rather than allowing them to grow stale and dry. Alternatively, you may put them in a resealable plastic bag to fulfill this same purpose. Consume your scones within one to two days if you keep them at room temperature.

    • 2

Package the scones the same way as you would have for room temperature and put them in the refrigerator if you will not be able to consume them within two days. Your refrigerated scones will stay good for significantly longer, up to a week from the time you make them or open a store-bought package.

    • 3

Wrap each individual scone with plastic wrap if you wish to keep them for longer than a week. Place the wrapped scones into a plastic freezer bag and seal the bag tightly. Put the bag of scones into your freezer and consume within two to three months.

Tips & Warnings

  • To reheat your refrigerated or frozen scones, unwrap them and place them on a baking sheet. Put the baking sheet into a preheated 350 F oven and heat until they are warmed through. This will take about 10 minutes for refrigerated scones and slightly longer for frozen scones.
