How to Donate Computers to Charity in Dallas, Texas
Computers are not biodegradable. They just take up space in landfills rather than disintegrating, and they cause additional pollution. In Dallas, charities such as Goodwill and the Salvation Army accept computer donations. Donated computers go through a rigorous cleaning process to wipe all data off the hard drive before they are donated to schools and charitable organizations. Not only will donating your computer keep the environment a little cleaner, it can help further the education of children and adults and provide you with an income tax deduction.

1
Find a Dallas charity to which you can donate your computer (see Resources). Once you choose a charity, you should perform a search with the Internal Revenue Service to determine if your chosen charity is a 501(C)3 nonprofit corporation registered with the IRS (see Resources). Enter the name of the charity into the IRS search box and view the search results for more information on the charity and its cause. Only donations to nonprofits are considered tax-deductible.

2
Contact your chosen charity to find donation center locations and hours. Many charities offer this information on their website. Computer donations must be made during business hours, as they should not be left outside in donation boxes in case of inclement weather.

3
Calculate the value of your computer donation, which is the amount you can deduct on your income tax return (see Resources). The Salvation Army provides a valuation guide you can use to calculate the value of your items.

4
Drop off your computer at one of your charity's Dallas locations. Obtain a tax receipt from an employee to keep for your personal tax records.
