How to Make a Mad Hatter Hat Tag
Lewis Caroll's tale "Alice in Wonderland" features a number of eccentric characters, not the least of which is the Mad Hatter. This nutty, hat-wearing, tea-drinker converses with Alice during her travels through Wonderland. He wishes her a very merry un-birthday and walks on the tea table, all while wearing his signature top hat. The Hatter, once a hat maker and seller, wears a hat that bears a price tag which reads 10/6, or 10 shillings and sixpence. If you're planning a Mad Hatter costume, this tag is a must.

1
Cut a piece of heavy cardstock about 4 inches wide and 7 inches tall. Make sure the edges are straight and free of tears or nicks.
-
2
Cover the bottom 2 inches of the cardstock rectangle with your hand. Draw a very light pencil line across the cardstock. The bottom 2 inches must remain blank, so you can see the entire hat tag.

3
Slowly and carefully write a large 10 in the top left corner of the cardstock. Draw a backslash under the 10 and draw a large 6 underneath that. Allow the ink to dry for about 15 minutes. Erase your light pencil mark.

4
Smear a little superglue across bottom 2 inches of the back of the hat tag. Press the tag to your top hat, butting the bottom of the tag against the brim of the hat. The tag should be clearly visible; a little to the right of the front center should do it.

5
Let the glue dry for about 15 minutes. Tie a 2-inch wide satin ribbon around the hat, covering the blank space on your tag. Let the tails of the ribbon dangle over the back of the brim.
