How to Replace a Pollen Filter

Your vehicle's pollen filter is called the cabin air filter. It keeps the dust, pollen and exhaust gas from getting in your heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. When the cabin air filter gets dirty, there might be problems with the interior heating and cooling systems. Keeping a clean filter means the air inside the cabin of your vehicle is cleaner, which is important for anyone with allergies or respiratory problems. Most cars manufactured after 2001 have cabin air filters.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the cabin air filter by referring to your vehicle's owner's manual. It is most likely located under the hood in the outside air intake, close to the passenger side of the vehicle. Some luxury cars may have more than one.

    • 2

Remove the deflector that is over the filter and take out the filter. It may be held in place with plastic fasteners.

    • 3

Pull out the cabin air filter. Clean the housing to keep the area free from mold and dust so additional dust does not enter the cabin from the frame.

    • 4

Slide a new cabin air filter and replace the deflector.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the cabin air filter is dirty, air might not be entering your vehicle's cabin.
