1
Paint the walls. The type of workout room that you're aiming for should determine the colors you choose. For example, a room in which you primarily do yoga might feature earth tones whereas a room where you'll be jumping around a lot is better served with a brighter color like yellow.
-
2
Clear an area in the center of the floor. Lay down a workout mat, but leave enough room on the periphery to place equipment like a stationary bike, an elliptical trainer or a set of dumbbells.
-

3
Position a large set of shelves off to one side on the wall. You'll use this for equipment and materials like towels, wrist and ankle weights, exercise tubing, jump ropes. To make things look neater, buy some small plastic storage bins for the shelves. Stow the jump ropes and hand weights in these containers.

4
Set up a stereo and TV on the shelves. If it's too cumbersome, get a second shelf or TV/ entertainment stand, which you'd position in front of the exercise bike or treadmill. Set up adequate sound by placing speakers in the cabinet as well. Additionally, look around for a unit with plenty of shelf storage space. You'll want to have room in which to store exercise videos; as such, you'll need a TV/ DVD set up as well if you intend to do exercise videos.
-
5
Use the corners for exercise balls of various sizes. If you stow them between a corner and the end of the shelf, they'll stay in place.
-
6
Bring in several fans to keep the air circulating in the room. Additionally, you may want to choose a room in the house --- if possible---with windows that open for the same reason. These should be opened from time to time to let the stale air escape.
-
7
Keep snacks and beverages close by. Bring in a mini-fridge and fill it with water and juice bottles, granola bars and fruit.
-
8
Bring in a clothes hamper. Throw your used towels, socks and other items in the hamper when you're done. Additionally, keep a trash can for empty food wrappers and other items.
-
9
Hang framed inspirational posters on the walls to keep your motivation strong.
