How to Make Your Snowskate Go Faster

How to Make Your Snowskate Go Faster thumbnail
Increase the speed of your snowskates.

Snowskating speed is a tricky thing. On one hand, if you're in a race or just want to improve your performance, you want to finish a course as quickly as you possibly can. On the other hand, the faster you go, the more dangerous it is. It becomes harder to turn and more dangerous if you accidentally hit something, even if it's just a pile of snow. The trick is to learn to accelerate your snowskates without risking personal injury.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply wax to the bottom of your snowskates. This helps reduce friction as they travel over the snow.

    • 2

Bend your knees. Apply your weight in the direction you're going. Put your arms to your side. Reduce your air friction.

    • 3

Push off with your back foot to increase speed when it's safe. Lean your weight forward if you can.

    • 4

Avoid skidding. Skidding is when the side of your snowskates are facing the front. This happens typically with sharp turns. If you can turn gradually rather than sharply, you'll gain speed rather than lose speed.

    • 5

Go as straight as possible. Although some zig-zagging to reduce speed may be necessary for safety, go straight as much as you possibly can to increase speed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Increasing your speed beyond what you can control is highly dangerous. Rather than trying to increase your speed all at once, do it gradually.
