Instructions for Covering a Candle Holder With Glass Mosaic Pieces

Mosaic artists use fragments of tile to create a pattern. For mosaics beginners, abstract patterns are easiest. Glass tiles come in a wide variety of colors and patterns. These tiles give off a slight sheen that is perfect for candle-holder projects. Select tiles of similar shapes and sizes to help the tile fragments have some uniformity.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover your workstation with plastic sheeting or newspaper.

    • 2

Place tiles in a plastic bag and lay the bag on a flat, hard surface. Gently hit each tile with the hammer, breaking the tile apart into three or four pieces. Don't hit too hard or you'll turn the tile into shards.

    • 3

Dip a popsicle stick into the adhesive and gently paint the adhesive on the backs of the tiles. Put another dot of adhesive on the candle holder where you'd like the tile to go. Press the tile firmly in place on the candle holder. Repeat this process until all the tiles are in place.

    • 4

Set the candle holder aside and allow the adhesive to dry overnight.

    • 5

Mix your black grout according to package directions. Use a clean popsicle stick to apply the grout to the candle holder. Cover the tiles and fill the cracks between the tile fragments. Continue until the cracks fill with grout to make them even with the tiles. Set aside and allow to dry for half an hour.

    • 6

Wet your sponge and use it to clean the dried grout off of the tiles. Work carefully and rinse your sponge often. When the tiles are clean, the candle holder is ready to use.
