How to Insert a Figure in APA Format

APA Style, detailed in the "Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association," is the writing style most commonly used in high schools and colleges. Students use APA Style as a guide for how to format papers. It is important to develop familiarity with APA style early on as a student. And if you want to publish academically, you will most likely need to know how to format your paper in APA Style. A figure is a diagram or picture illustrating textual material and is accompanied by a written description.

Instructions

1. Start a new page in the word processing or pagination software program you are using, and insert the figure on the new page.

2. Type "Figure" and then the number of the figure after the figure to the left side of the screen, then italicize what you typed.

3. Type a description of the figure after the figure number. The description should be short and explain what the figure represents.
