How to Stop Pop Ups for Free and Forever

Stop pop-ups using your browser's built-in features.

Pop-ups are small size Web browser windows that sometimes appear when you are surfing the Net. The windows usually display ads from the websites that generate them. Although usually not dangerous, pop-ups can slow you down and be quite annoying. In addition, malicious programs can generate the pop-ups and not just your Web browser. Fortunately, most popular browsers include built-in pop-up blockers that stop ads for free and forever.

Instructions

Internet Explorer

1. Openyour Internet Explorer browser.

2. Click the "Tools" menu option.

3. Select "Turn On Pop-up Blocker."

Firefox

1. Start Firefox. Click the "Tools" menu option and select "Options."

2. Click the "Content" tab in the "Options" window.

3. Check "Block pop-up windows" box. Click "OK" to close the window.

Safari

1. Launch Safari.

2. Click the "Safari" menu button.

3. Click "Block Pop-Up Windows."

Tips & Warnings

• If pop-ups still appear, you should check if any websites are set as an exception to blocking.

• Some websites open links in pop-up windows for security. You will not be able to view the content in the window until you disable the pop-up blocker.

• Some pop-ups are generated by spyware and viruses. You need to run an anti-spyware or anti-virus program if you still experience pop-ups.
