1
Choose your design. Whether you're 6 years old or 40, you'll need to know what type of ring you want to draw. It could be a simple wedding band or a jeweled ring fit for a princess. Either way, you can't start drawing without a final product in mind.

2
Draw big. Especially for your first time, you'll want to draw a ring that is much larger than the real thing. This will allow you to get more detail along the way (or erase more easily if you make a mistake).

3
Draw a circle. This will be the base for your ring. If you want a large jewel on top, you can draw (lightly) a smaller circle there that will be the marker for that later on.
-
4
Draw a circle inside the larger one. Now your ring has two sides. On the inside bottom of your circle, draw a curved line in a crescent shape. This gives the ring some depth. It should be starting to look more three-dimensional.

5
Fill in the diamond on top of your ring if you have one. Think of the cut of stone you want to have. If it's a traditional diamond, you will want to draw an octagon on the top, drawing vertical lines down from the front three corners. Don't forget about keeping some perspective. The two right and left vertical lines should splay out slightly to give the illusion of depth around the stone.
From the front corners, draw three more lines slanting toward each other and the base of the ring. Now you have a complete diamond.

Tips & Warnings
Unless you're more accomplished, you don't have to worry about shading. Even if you're having a ring designed off your drawing, a general idea of the shape and layout of stones should be enough for most professionals to work with.
