How to Add Silk Flowers to a Corsage Wristlet

How to Add Silk Flowers to a Corsage Wristlet thumbnail
Although you can use almost any type of silk flowers for a wristlet corsage, roses are a traditional choice.

Corsages make the perfect completing accessory to any special event such as a wedding or dance. Traditional corsages are pinned to the chest or lapel area and held with a pin. Wristlets use an elastic band to keep the corsage in place. Floral designers construct wristlets with silk flowers similarly to those with traditional fresh flowers. A benefit of silk flowers is that they do not need refrigeration, and they do not require such a delicate touch.

Instructions

    • 1

Snip the silk flowers so that their stems are between 2 to 3 inches long. You may need wire cutters to cut through the wire stem of the flowers.

    • 2

Gather the silk flowers to design your corsage. Corsages typically have one large flower, with smaller flowers and filler leaves as an accent. Odd numbered flowers tend to look nicer than even numbered groupings.

    • 3

Wrap the flower grouping with floral tape, moving in a downward spiral. When you reach the end of the stems cut or rip the floral tape.

    • 4

Wrap the gathered stems around a pencil to make a corkscrew-like pattern.

    • 5

Place the completed flower grouping on top of the wristlet holder, and bend the prongs inward. Hide the prongs under some ribbon, or in the extra foliage of the corsage. This completes the wristlet corsage and keeps the silk flowers from falling out.

    • 6

Slide the corsage onto the intended wearer's arm. Traditionally, the larger portion of the corsage is higher up on the arm, with the smaller stem are pointed toward the wrist.

Tips & Warnings

  • The number of flowers and the size of the wristlet corsage are matters of personal preference. Petite women tend to look better with smaller wristlets.

  • If you are worried that the silk arrangement might fall out of the wristlet, use hot glue to secure it down.
