Some Siemens cooktops are designed with a safety feature that allows you to lock the cooktop, preventing the burners from turning on. This is particularly convenient if you plan to clean your appliance or if you have children at home. In addition, if your pets walk across your counters, you might benefit from this safety feature. Depending on your cooktop model, you may have to lock it in one of a few ways.

Check your owner's manual for specifics about turning the lock feature on or off on your cooktop. New models are often made slightly differently than older ones, so be sure you know how to correctly approach a cooktop change before making alterations to its settings.

Even with a cooktop lock, ranges and ovens can be extremely dangerous to children or pets. Don't rely on the lock to keep your little ones and furry friends safe. Keep kids and pets out of the kitchen whenever possible and teach children about the dangers of fires and burns.

Next, hold the main switch for at least five seconds. After that time, you should hear a signal sound. This will indicate that the safety lock has been activated. (Note that "hob" is a word commonly used in British English to refer to a cooktop.)

To unlock the cooktop, you can follow this process in reverse, by first holding down the main switch. Once the signal sounds, you should be able to turn the burners back on. The lock will be off.

Never test a cooktop to see whether it is locked or unlocked by placing your hands on it or on a burner. Instead, place a pot of water on the cooktop to see whether it starts to heat as it should. Even seconds after turning on, many induction cooktops can become extremely hot and could cause burns.
