How to Reset the "Change Oil" Message in a 1999 Grand Prix

The oil change indicator light is located on the instrument cluster in the Grand Prix.

Resetting the "Change Oil" light in a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix takes place without computers or scanners. The "Change Oil" light is made to come on as a reminder for the driver to change the oil at recommended intervals. Resetting the light will take a couple of minutes as it's a combination of turning the key and pressing the gas pedal.

Instructions

1. Turn the ignition key to the "start" position. Do not start the car.

2. Press the gas pedal down three times immediately after turning the key to "start." The "Change Oil" light will flash twice. This will mean that the system is resetting.

3. Repeat this procedure if the indicator does not go off. It may require a couple of times to ensure the car computer takes the reset procedure.

4. Reset the trip mode button by accessing the oil life feature on the digital trip meter. Press the reset button until the oil life reads at 99 percent.

Tips & Warnings

• Only reset this light after the oil has been changed. Failure to do so will cause issues with the oil change intervals in the vehicle.
