The oil change indicator light is located on the instrument cluster in the Grand Prix.

Resetting the "Change Oil" light in a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix takes place without computers or scanners. The "Change Oil" light is made to come on as a reminder for the driver to change the oil at recommended intervals. Resetting the light will take a couple of minutes as it's a combination of turning the key and pressing the gas pedal.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the ignition key to the "start" position. Do not start the car.

    • 2

Press the gas pedal down three times immediately after turning the key to "start." The "Change Oil" light will flash twice. This will mean that the system is resetting.

    • 3

Repeat this procedure if the indicator does not go off. It may require a couple of times to ensure the car computer takes the reset procedure.

    • 4

Reset the trip mode button by accessing the oil life feature on the digital trip meter. Press the reset button until the oil life reads at 99 percent.

Tips & Warnings

  • Only reset this light after the oil has been changed. Failure to do so will cause issues with the oil change intervals in the vehicle.
