Instructions for a Lincoln Electric K610-1 MIG thumbnail
The addition of shielding gas to arc welding allows for cleaner, slag-free weld beads.

The Lincoln Electric K610-1 is a kit to convert Lincoln Electric brand flux core arc welding machines into metal inert gas (MIG) welding machines. The K610-1 is not a single product, but rather a collection of several Lincoln Electric products bundled and sold together for convenience. These conversion products include a gas solenoid assembly, a gas hose and assembly, gas regulator, wire spool and wire feeding roll and all the necessary clamps and ties for installing the conversion materials.

Instructions

    • 1

Secure the shielding gas tank to a wall and remove the gas cylinder cap.

    • 2

Attach the gas solenoid assembly and flow regulator to the shielding gas tank and plug the gas tubing into the gas inlet valve on the back of the welder.

    • 3

Disconnect the flux core arc weld feeding tube and the wire bushing connector from the front of the arc welding machine and replace it with the MIG gun cable.

    • 4

Tighten the thumb screw and plug in the MIG gun wire bushing connector to the front of the welder.

    • 5

Remove the flux core wire spool from the interior of the welder and slide the solid core MIG wire spool onto the feeding spindle.

    • 6

Raise the pivot arm assembly on the wire feeder and pop out the flux core drive roll and snap in the MIG drive roll.

    • 7

Feed 6 inches of solid core MIG wire through the drive roll assembly and into the MIG cable through the back of the face plate on the welder. Push the MIG wire through the lining sleeve on the MIG cable and out the tip of the MIG welding gun.

    • 8

Lower the pivot arm on the wire drive assembly to add tension to the MIG wire.

    • 9

Close the side hatch to the welder and turn the machine on.

    • 10

Squeeze the MIG torch trigger to feed the wire through the tube to complete the conversion.
