How to Clean a GameCube Disc

How to Clean a GameCube Disc thumbnail
A clean Gamecube disc performs better.

The GameCube was Nintendo's first foray into using discs for video games, and for all the speed and extra data storage that that a disc might offer compared to a cartridge, it gets dirty more readily than its classic cartridge counterparts. With enough dust on its surface, a game disc will begin to malfunction and you'll experience irregularities in game play, such as freezes, crashes and stutters. Handle GameCube discs with care, as cleaning it improperly can damage your disc.

Instructions

    • 1

Dampen 1/2 of the cotton cloth with plain water. Do not use soap, spit or other substances, as these might damage the disc.

    • 2

Wipe dust and fingerprint smears off the disc using the damp half of the cloth. When doing so, start in the middle of the disc and move outwards towards the edge. Do not wipe the disc in a circular fashion, as this can also cause damage.

    • 3

Place the disc bottom up on a flat surface so that it can dry. Let it dry for two to five minutes before putting it in the GameCube system again.
