How to Kill Saw Palmetto
The saw palmetto is native to the Southeastern United States, from South Carolina to Florida. It is a small tree, about 10 feet tall, with fronds that can reach 2 feet in length. The berries from the saw palmetto are used in cancer treatments. If you would like to kill this tree in your yard, it is best to remove it as well. Does this Spark an idea?

Climb a ladder and cut off all of the fronds from the saw palmetto.

Place your protective goggles on and cut down the saw palmetto with the chainsaw. Make a cut about one-third of the way through the tree on the side you want it to fall toward. The cut should be a 3-inch V-shape and about 1 foot from the base of the tree. Make a back cut one-third of the way through the saw palmetto on the opposite side of the tree as the first cut. This cut should be 3 to 4 inches higher than the other cut. The saw palmetto will fall forward after the back cut. Move out of the way of the falling tree.

Dig a large circle around the base of the saw palmetto about 6 feet in diameter and 4 to 5 feet deep. Tie the rope around the base of the saw palmetto and pull it out of the hole.

Discard the dead tree and all of its foliage.
