How to Bait Squirrel Traps

Save

Imagine sitting in your home, constantly hearing a creature running around in your attic. It's a scenario that some homeowners experience. The creature is often a squirrel. Fortunately, you don't have to learn to live with hearing their constant running. You can capture squirrels, using bait that will ease the critter into your trap.

Things You'll Need

  • Squirrel trap (such as a 1040 trap)
  • bread
  • peanut butter
  • Learn about your trap before using it. Bring out bait ingredients once you are familiar with the trap.

  • Take out one slice of bread. Use a butter knife and apply some peanut butter on one side of the bread.

  • Fold the piece of bread, with the peanut butter in the middle.

  • Break off a very small piece of the bread to be used as a "chum" or attractant for the squirrel. Place this next to where you will set up your trap.

  • Break off the top of the peanut butter sandwich. Place it on the trigger of the trap. Make sure it is stuck to the trap.

  • Place the trap next to the chum, and whereyou saw or heard the squirrel.

Tips & Warnings

  • Test your trap a few times to make sure it is working properly before you load the bait.
