DuPont Weed Control Fabric eliminates weeding.

DuPont Weed-Free Weed Control Fabric is a breathable garden fabric that gardeners lay over their garden beds to keep weeds from growing. The fabric allows air and water to pass through to the soil, but not sunlight. The lack of sunlight kills any weeds that may try to germinate in the garden bed. You can install the fabric over existing plants or on a bare garden bed. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any existing weeds from the garden bed with a garden hoe. Chop the weeds 1 to 2 inches below the soil level to kill the roots, and discard the weeds in the trash.

    • 2

Unroll the DuPont Weed-Free Weed Control Fabric over the garden bed. If the bed already has plants in it, roll it on top of the plants.

    • 3

Cut an "X" in the fabric and gently pull the fabric down and around the base of the existing plants. Tuck the fabric around the base of the plant. If you are planting new plants, cut the "X" in the location where you want to plant. Fold back the fabric and use a hand spade to dig a hole under the "X." Lower the plant into the hole, firm the soil around the roots, and tuck the fabric around the base of the plant.

    • 4

Insert landscape anchor pins through the edge of the landscape fabric and into the soil to secure it. Stick in a pin every 6 inches.

    • 5

Cover the weed control fabric with mulch. Organic mulch, such as wood chips or straw, or inorganic mulch like gravel rocks, are fine.
