How to Break an NP Employment Agreement

How to Break an NP Employment Agreement thumbnail
If a nurse practitioner wants to break an employment agreement she has to follow the terms of the contract.

Nurse practitioners are an important part of the health care world. However, as with any job, an NP might get fed up with his current position and desire to break his employment agreement. This can be done, but it's important that a nurse practitioner carefully read through the contract that was signed to see just how to go about parting ways with the employer.

Instructions

    • 1

Review the employment agreement that was signed. You should always know what you're signing before you put your name on the dotted line, but if you read through the contract, it should have several sections regarding breaking the agreement for employment and what's required of the nurse practitioner when this happens.

    • 2

Discuss your desire to break your employment agreement with your employer. Explain that you want to break the agreement, and figure out a compromise between the two of you. For instance, if your contract states that you need to give two weeks of notice, but you have to leave immediately for some reason, the employer might make an exception if your reason is compelling.

    • 3

Sign any official paperwork that's necessary to break the agreement. You may have to give written notice of your leaving, fill out exit forms or perform some other necessary bit of paperwork before you can officially break your employment agreement.
