How to Make Your Own Wooden Plug Earrings

You can make earrings at home.

If you've got a couple of wooden plugs and a glue gun, you can make cute wooden plug earrings at home. You don't need any special crafting skills and it takes only a few minutes. Best of all, your cute wooden plug earrings are completely safe for your ears. They are inexpensive to make so you can craft a pair in every color. They also make nice gifts for all of your friends with pierced ears.

Things You'll Need

• Wood plugs
• Decoupage paste
• Old stud earrings
• Glue gun
• Origami paper
• Razor blade knife
• Paint
• Paintbrush

Instructions

1. Coat your wooden plugs with decoupage paste. A popular decoupage product is Mod Podge, which is a crafting sealer, glue and finish in one. You can pick it up in crafting stores and it will make your plugs safe to wear on your ears.

2. Place your origami paper face down on a flat surface. Choose a patterned paper if you want patterned wooden plug earrings or a solid color if that's what you prefer.

3. Place your wooden plugs, still wet with decoupage paste, face down on the origami paper. Allow the paste to dry completely.

4. Trim the origami paper around your wooden plugs with a razor blade knife. When you lift your plugs, the faces should be covered by the origami paper.

5. Paint the sides of your wooden plugs to match the colors on the origami paper. Allow the paint to dry completely.

6. Glue the old stud earrings to the backs of your wooden plugs with the hot glue gun, with the posts sticking out. Allow the glue to dry completely and your earrings are ready to wear.
