How to Mix Powder Paint
Powder paint is the base for creating the paint used by the masters of the European Renaissance. Tempera paint is a combination of powdered paint pigments, egg and water. Mixed properly, the powder turns into a smoothly applied paint capable of vibrant colors of any imaginable hue. Things You'll Need
- Fresh egg yolk
- Paper towel
- Toothpick
- Glass bowl
- Stirring stick
- Powdered tempera pigments

Crack an egg and separate the egg yolk from the white. Use as fresh an egg as possible for best results in creating a smooth paint. Place the yolk onto the center of a paper towel and move the yolk toward the edge to remove any remaining egg white.

Pierce the yolk sac with a toothpick and then drain the yolk into a glass bowl. Add one tsp. of water to the bowl. Mix the egg yolk and water thoroughly using a small wooden stirring stick.

Pour an equal amount of powder paint into the mixed egg and water. Mix the two completely to create a useable paint. Adjust the thickness of the paint by adding more of the powder to thicken or more water to thin the paint.

Tips & Warnings
Use a fresh hen egg and distilled water for a smoother paint mix.
The yellow of the yolk will alter the initial color, but its effects will disappear in about a day.
