Inform your friends and family of your achievements.

High school graduation is a time to celebrate a student's achievements and it is customary to inform relatives and friends of the upcoming exciting event through sending graduation announcements. Many schools offer a package that allows you to order announcements and there are numerous websites from which to order them too. But if these options seem impersonal to you or are outside your budget, you can create your own announcements that carry your own signature style. Make them whatever color, pattern, theme and size you like.

Instructions

    • 1

Sketch your design or make a mock-up of your invitation and take it to a paper store, scrapbooking store or office supply store. Buy a heavier paper for the announcement itself and regular paper of either white or a coordinating color on which black ink will be legible. If your budget allows, pick up some thin, antique-looking paper called vellum.

    • 2

Purchase ribbon of your choice that is thin enough to fit through the hole of a hole-punch, no more than about ¼-inch wide. If your design includes any stamping, be sure you have the ink.

    • 3

Cut the heavy paper down to the size you would like your announcements to be; use a paper cutter for speed and precision. Often announcements are small cards, 4-inches by 6-inches is probably sufficient space for your message.

    • 4

Type the message your would like to include inside your announcements using a scrolling or scripted font. Usually the information included here is the name of the graduate, the name of the school and the date and location of the ceremony. If the graduate has earned any awards or honors, these should be listed as well. Be sure to set the margins on your document so the message prints out in a column that will fit on your card. Type either a quote or a verse to put on the front of the card.

    • 5

Print as many copies of the messages as you have announcements. Cut the messages down to a slightly smaller size than the cards. Using scissors that cut with a wavy line will add class without additional effort. Glue the messages into the cards. Do the same with the quote for the front of the card. Add any embellishments such as stamps, stickers or die-cutting.

    • 6

Punch two holes on the left side of each card. Thread the ribbon up through each hole so the two ends are on the side of the card that will be the front. Tie the ends together in a small bow. If you are using vellum also, cut it down to the same size as the card, hole-punch it, slip it inside the card and thread the ribbon through it as well.

Include a senior picture and the senior "name card" if you have them. Place them in envelopes and mail.
