Making a DIY fence can save you large amounts of money by avoiding the costs of installation. If you aren't experienced with fence building, you'll likely want the easiest method possible. You can build the fence using basic materials found at a home improvement store.
Things You'll Need
- Tall wood or metal stakes
- Plastic mesh, metal mesh or chicken wire
- Staples or fence ties
Measure the length of the area where you'll install the fence. This will help you to know the exact amount of materials you'll need.
Hammer fence stakes into the ground at an interval every 4 feet. The fence stake should go approximately 6 inches into the ground for maximum stability.
Line a role of plastic or metal mesh or chicken wire up so it's even with the stake.
Attach the fencing material to the stake with staples or fence ties. Use five or six with even spacing in between.
Unroll enough fencing material until you get to the next stake and attach with staples or fence ties.
Continue this process until you get to the last stake.
Cut the roll of fencing material free of the new fence to complete the project.
Tips & Warnings
- For metal stakes, use fence ties. For wood stakes, use either staples or fence ties.
- Have a person on hand to help you with the task as it will be much easier to complete.
