Instructions

    • 1

Determine where the Christmas lights are going to be plugged in. Use heavy-duty extension cords to span the distance between the electrical plug and the lights.

    • 2

Measure the distance that will be spanned with the Christmas lights. Most strings of lights come in specific lengths, such as 10 feet. Figure out how many strands of lights you will need to cover the front of the building.

    • 3

Plug in the outdoor Christmas lights before hanging them. This will give you a chance to check the lights and make sure they are working properly. Replace broken and missing bulbs in the strand. Unplug the lights.

    • 4

Place a ladder against the side of the building. Installing Christmas lights on a commercial building can be more difficult than installing them on your home because commercial buildings are often taller than typical homes. Make sure you are using a ladder that is tall enough that you do not have to stretch unsafely to reach the gutters of the building.

    • 5

Place plastic gutter clips on the gutters. If the building does not have a gutter, attach the lights with tube light clips. These clips nail or screw directly into the wooden trim of the building.

    • 6

Slide the Christmas light strands into the hook on the bottom of the gutter clips or into the tube light clips. Plug the strands into the extension cord.
