Things You'll Need

  • Stiff broom
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Water
  • Bleach
  • Spray bottle
  • Scrub brush
  • Wet/dry shop vac

Instructions

    • 1

      Use a stiff broom to brush away surface mildew from your carpets. Once it's loosened, vacuum it up immediately.

      Mix 1 gallon of water with 1 cup of bleach. Pour the cleaning solution into a spray bottle.

      Spray down all carpets affected by mildew with the bleach solution.

      Allow the bleach solution to sit on the carpet for several minutes.

      Get down on the ground and scrub away the mildew using a stiff scrub brush.

      Rinse your carpeting with water. Use a wet/dry shop vac to extract the liquid.

Tips & Warnings

  • If a wet/dry shop vac is not available, blot the carpets dry with a large towel and turn on a dehumidifier to help dry the carpets completely.
