Instructions

    • 1

Rub the paint with bar soap on both sides of the fabric. Wash the item in hot water to loosen the paint.

    • 2

Rub the paint with more soap and a nailbrush if the above treatment has no or little effect. Rub both sides of the paint vigorously with the brush to remove paint particles. Wash the fabric in hot water once more.

    • 3

Boil a large pot of water on the stove. Mix the boiling water with dish soap. Soak the stained item in the boiling water until the water cools. Remove the item from the water. Scrub the paint vigorously with the nailbrush. Wash as usual.

    • 4

Test a small amount of acetone on the fabric for color-fastness. If the acetone does not damage the fabric, then pour a liberal amount over the paint. Place a pad of paper towels under the painted area of the fabric to absorb some of the acetone and to help the acetone soak through both sides of the cloth. Allow the acetone to sit for about 20 minutes.

    • 5

Scrub the spot with the nailbrush to lift the paint particles from the cloth. Rinse out the acetone with water, and launder the item as usual.

    • 6

Pour dry cleaning fluid over the stained area as a last resort if no other methods work. Dry cleaning fluid is more effective at removing oil-based stains than water-based. Allow the fluid to sit for 10 minutes. Rub the area with the brush. Rinse the fluid out with water and wash as usual.
