Create a word list. Decide whether to use random words that pertain to babies or to concentrate on one aspect of having a baby. Examples include baby items, baby names or things babies eat. You can also use a humorous theme like "things babies do," and include words such as spit up, poop, drool, eat, sleep and cry. You may also decide whether to use a clue list, provide a word list or simply have guests try to find appropriate words without any help.

Draw or create a grid and write the words in the grid. Use an online free puzzle creator if you don't want to create the puzzles by hand. If using an online puzzle creator, you provide the word list and let the puzzle program place the words where they best fit on the printed page. Or, you can place the words where you want them in the blank grid. Make your word search puzzle different from most by placing a tray of items where all guests can see them. Each item should represent a word in the puzzle. Guests will search for the word that represents each item rather than following clues or a word list.
Offer guests a piece of cardboard or other sturdy item to place their word puzzles on. This will help guests accomplish pen or pencil activities more easily.
Plant a secret word or phrase in the word puzzle. Offer a special prize for the first person or for each person who figures out the secret. The baby's name is one idea for a secret word, or the last name of the family.
Make the letters in the puzzle large enough for most people to read. Small print is difficult for many to read and takes away from the fun of the game.
