How to Make Miniature Glitter Houses
Miniature glitter houses can be a fun addition to a holiday train set or winter store display, to give away as gifts or simply a fun craft to make with your kids. With the use of a shake-on glitter container and some other basic supplies, you can make several of these sparkly houses in less than an hour. If you are doing the project with kids, make sure an adult is in charge of the cutting duties.

1
Cut a Styrofoam block into the shape of a miniature house. Mark your lines with a marker and use a box cutter to cut smooth lines into the house. Take care when cutting the diagonal portion of the house, as Styrofoam can break off easily during diagonal cutting.

2
Place a dollop of glue on a newspaper or in a small container. Use your paint brush to brush glue all over the house. Wear plastic gloves if you do not want glue on your hands. Cover all surfaces quickly, so the glue does not dry. Use a water cup to remove excess glue from the brush. A bit of water on the brush is alright, as it will allow the glue to spread a little easier.

3
Place the glued house on a newspaper and sprinkle glitter all over it. Pour a lot of glitter all over the house. Whatever does not stick will fall onto the newspaper and can be placed back into the container for the next project.

Allow the house to dry on the newspaper, before attempting to move it. When it is dry, shake the house over the newspaper to get off any loose glitter. Check for spots that did not get enough glitter and re-apply glue and glitter.

Tips & Warnings
If you want different colors for the roof and the rest of the house, paint one portion first, glitter it with one color and allow to dry, before moving on to the next section. Add various features this way, too. If you want snow on your roof, drop a bit of glue onto the roof once it is dry, then add white glitter to your chosen areas.
The shape of your glitter house can be as elaborate as you want it. For a fancier glitter house, carve recessed doors and windows into the Styrofoam, before adding the glue and glitter.
Some people use cardboard or pasteboard for their glitter houses, and you can do the same, but Styrofoam is already shaped into many easy-to-use designs.
