Homemade Wallpaper Glue
You can make homemade wallpaper glue in minutes using common household items. Most wallpaper and borders manufactured today are pre-pasted. If you purchase a wallpaper or border that is not pre-pasted, though, you will need wallpaper glue, also known as wallpaper paste, to hang it. Mix together ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen cabinets to make inexpensive and nontoxic wallpaper glue. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 1½ cups white flour
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 saucepans
- Wire whisk
- Spoon
- 1 tbsp. alum
- Double boiler
- 1 cup flour
- 3 tsp. alum
- Water
- 10 drops clove oil
- Glass jar with screw-on lid
- 1/3 cup plain wheat flour
- 2 tbsp. sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 tbsp. cinnamon oil

Mix 1½ cups white flour and ½ cup sugar in a saucepan.

Pour 1 cup cold water in the saucepan and beat the mixture with a wire whisk to remove lumps. Place the saucepan on the stove on medium heat.

Boil 2 cups of water in a separate saucepan. Pour the boiling water into the flour mixture. Stir constantly with a spoon and bring it to a boil. Remove from heat when the mixture is stiff. Stir in 1 tbsp. alum.

Store the mixture in an airtight container. If mixture hardens, stir in a small amount of water until the mixture is the right consistency.

Fill the bottom of a double boiler with water. Mix 1 cup flour and 3 tsp. alum in the top of the double boiler.

Stir water into the flour mixture until it is the consistency of heavy cream. Stir until well blended.

Place the double boiler over medium heat. Stir constantly. Remove the double boiler from heat when the mixture is the consistency of gravy. Allow it to cool.

Stir in 10 drops of clove oil. Store the mixture in a glass jar with a screw-on lid.

Mix 1/3 cup plain wheat flour and 2 tbsp. sugar in a saucepan. Mix well and place over low heat.

Stir in 1 cup water. Continue stirring, making sure all lumps are removed. Remove the saucepan from heat when the mixture turns clear.

Add 1/4 tbsp. cinnamon oil and stir to mix. Store in a clean jar with a screw-on lid.
