Wedding envelope holders, or money boxes, provide a convenient way to collect gift cards at your wedding. Avoid the expense of buying an envelope holder by making one yourself or with your bridesmaids. Make it in the shape of a tiered wedding cake.

  • 3 round or rectangular boxes of different sizes, with lids
  • Box cutter
  • Paper (white, colored or gift wrap)
  • Ribbon or bows
  • Glue

Instructions

    • 1

Stack the boxes on top of each other.

    • 2

Cut a large slit in the top box with a box cutter. Leave enough room for cards to slide in easily.

    • 3

Disassemble the boxes. Cut a hole approximately 8 by 9 inches in the lid of the second box, allowing enough space for cards to drop down and pile up. If you expect to receive many cards, also cut holes in the bottom of the middle box and the lid of the third box to enlarge the space available to hold cards.

    • 4

Cover the boxes in plain white paper or wrapping paper or leave them plain if you have new, white boxes.

    • 5

Glue the tops onto the boxes.

    • 6

Trim the edges of each box with ribbon. Apply a light coat of glue to the sides and sprinkle them with glitter to add shimmer. Use letter stickers to spell out the bride and groom's names and wedding date. Glue on faux flowers.

    • 7

Glue the boxes together, one on top of another.

Tips & Warnings

  • Purchase plain boxes of varying sizes at a crafts store, or recycle old shoe or hat boxes to save money and paper.

  • Choose colors in keeping with the color scheme of the wedding.
