How to Use a Fused Glass Bracelet Mold

A fused glass bracelet mold is used in a kiln to melt glass frit or pieces of glass of the same thermal coefficient of expansion (CoE) into a shape that can be used as a bracelet. The glass slumps or melts to fill the mold. Covering the mold completely with kiln wash is important to keep the glass from sticking to the mold, which can cause the glass to break. The firing process varies somewhat for different kilns, so follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific type of glass fusing you want to accomplish.

Things You'll Need

• Glass bracelet mold
• Brush
• Kiln wash
• Safety glasses
• Glass pieces or frit of same CoE
• Kiln

Instructions

1. Paint the fused glass bracelet mold with kiln wash. Let it dry, and paint it again. Repeat this process until any part of the mold that glass will touch is completely covered.

2. Pour the glass frit or pieces of glass with the same thermal CoE (92 CoE, for example) into the fused glass bracelet mold.

3. Mound the frit slightly along the center of the mold to keep sharp edges from developing as it fuses.

4. Place the mold on the shelf in the kiln and set the firing schedule according to the kiln manufacturer's instructions.

Tips & Warnings

• Use safety glasses while cutting glass into shapes.

• Do not leave the kiln unattended while it is in use.
