How to Frame Embroidery Projects
Embroidery projects make beautiful wall art, but after all the tedious and painstaking work of an embroidery project, you might want to pass off the task of framing to a professional or simply put off framing your work all together. However, framing your embroidery project does not have to be another arduous project to complete. For the modern day embroiderer with a small-sized project, a simple hoop frame is both simple and stylish.
Things You'll Need
- Wooden embroidery hoop
- Measuring tape or ruler
- Pencil
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Scissors
Instructions
-
-
1
Plug in the glue gun and allow it to heat up.
-
2
Center your embroidery project within the large outer embroidery hoop, then fit in the smaller inner hoop and tighten the hoop to fit.
-
-
3
Trace the circle of the inside of the hoop onto the back of the embroidered cloth. Remove the fabric and set aside.
-
4
Measure the width of the wooden band that forms the embroidery hoop. On the fabric, add the width of the wooden band to the circle traced from the inside of the hoop. Mark off the measurements at several intervals around the circle.
-
5
Trim the fabric to the new measurement. If you'd like to be able to make slight adjustments when centering your image, leave a little more fabric when cutting.
-
6
Place the trimmed embroidery project over the inner hoop. Holding it gently over the hoop, lift up the edge of fabric at several different points around the frame to squeeze out a drop of glue. Press down on the fabric to neatly glue down the embroidery project. As more glue is added, the cloth can be stretched securely taut over the hoop, like the surface of a drum.
-
7
Place the larger outside hoop over the cloth, with the screw directly at the top and center of your image. Tighten the screw. Trim off any excess cloth at the back of the embroidery project.

Tips & Warnings
Hang your embroidery project by resting it over a finishing nail, or by tying a small loop of string around the screw.
