How to Remove Rust Spots Off Chrome
Chrome metal is found on most bikes, motorcycles and cars in some form or another. It is a bright, mirror-like metal that resists tarnishing. However, it will rust when exposed to moisture or water. Rust blemishes the surface of chrome, so removing it is a must if you want to maintain appearances. There are a few ways to remove rust. Either remove the part and send it to a chrome plating shop or do it yourself. While not complex, the home remedy requires a fine touch and attention to detail. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Steel wool pads
- Metal or chrome polish
- Polishing pad
- Grinder with polishing disc (optional)

Assess the extent of the chrome rust and take note of the depth of the rust. For instance, look closely to see if it appears in cracks, pits or is just on the surface of the chrome.

Apply metal or chrome polish to a fine steel wool pad and rub the rusted areas with the pad to remove rust. Continue to rub the area briskly until all the rust spots and marks are removed.

Wipe away the residue and polish with a soft rag. Rub the area until the part shines again. For larger areas, this may require lots of rubbing and buffing with a grinder and polishing disc.

Tips & Warnings
Steel wool actually scratches away the rust and leaves small scratches on the chrome. Buffing the metal with the rag or with a buffing disc removes these scratches and refinishes the surface.
