How to Make Laminated Fridge Magnets

Take a look at a person's fridge and you may see a blank slate or, if you're lucky, you may see a gorgeous array of colorful magnets. Many people collect them to show places they've visited. Others just like the way they look. Fridge magnets also make a great gift or can be duplicated to make unique event invitations. They can also be a nice alternative to framed photographs. Now you can make your own laminated fridge magnets.

Things You'll Need:

  • Scissors
  • Photo Quality Paper
  • Printer
  • One Or More Small, Round, Flat Magnets
  • Computer
  • Laminating Machine
  • Photograph

Pick a printed photograph you'd like to turn into a magnet.

Create a custom magnet on your computer if you do not want to make a photograph into a magnet. You can use a digital photograph as a base if you wish. Edit your photograph using a photo editing program such as Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. You can add any text you'd like. For instance, if making magnets to serve as wedding invitations, you can put a picture of the bride and groom and the date of the wedding.

Crop and resize your photo so that it is relatively small when you print it. Make about 500 by 500 pixels.

Print your photo on regular paper. If it looks too large or small for your liking to be used a fridge magnet, adjust the size again.

Print your picture on photo-quality paper when you are satisfied with it.

Cut the photo out of the paper carefully in any shape you'd like. It is easier to work with a rectangular shape.

Put your photo in the laminating machine and wait until it is finished laminating it. Be careful to insert it so that it does not fold or wrinkle. Follow the instructions carefully, as every laminating machine is different. Some use heat and some do not. Some require more time to do its work. In any case, never leave it unattended.

Cover one end of a small, flat magnet with super glue and stick it on the back of your laminated photo. If the photo is particularly large, you may opt to use two magnets. One is preferable.

Wait until the glue dries. Your magnet is finished.
