How to Remove Bathroom Tub Caulk
The caulk that sits around the rim and base of your bathtub, covering the joint between the tub and the surround floor and wall tile, is there to prevent moisture from getting into the joint. The caulk can become cracked and corroded over time, requiring replacement. Liquid caulk remover will help soften up the old caulk surface so you can more easily cut it out. - Rubber gloves
- Liquid caulk remover
- Foam paint brush
- Razor knife
- Plastic putty knife
- Nylon scrub brush
- 1/3 cup bleach
- Quart spray bottle

Put on your rubber gloves. Spread liquid caulk remover over the surface of the caulk line with a foam brush, from end to end, coating it completely.

Let the softener sit for about 15 minutes, or until you can press the surface with your putty knife and leave a deep indentation.

Cut along the length of the caulk line, along both the top and bottom, separating it completely from the tub and surrounding tile. Dig it out with the plastic putty knife.

Brush additional caulk remover over the joint and let it sit for another 15 minutes. Scrub vigorously with a nylon scrub brush to take up the residual caulk. Rinse well.

Mix 1/3 cup of bleach to a gallon of warm water in your spray bottle. Spray down the line with the bleach solution. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse well. The line is now ready for new caulk.
