How to Add Christmas Lights to an Image in CS3
Photoshop CS3 is a widely used photo editing application with an array of tools and functions often used to alter or repair images before someone uses them. But you can also use it to add graphics objects to an image. For example, if you are creating a Christmas card in Photoshop, you might want the image on the card to be a photo of your family. To make this card more impressive and festive, use the tools of Photoshop to add Christmas lights to the sides of the image.

1
Load the image that you want to work with onto your computer. The best way to do this is to copy it directly from a digital source like a camera or SD card, but you can also scan in a printed copy.
-
2
Open Photoshop. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate the image you loaded and open it.
-
-
3
Go to the "Layers" palette and click on the "Create New Layer" button.
-
4
Select the "Pen" tool from the toolbar. Click to add a point for the top of the bulb. Then add more points, dragging as you go to define the shape of the bulb.
-
5
Right-click on the shape and choose "Make Selection." Select the "Paintbucket" tool and fill the selection with the color you want for the bulb.
-
6
Select "Filter" from the menu and choose "Render." From the options, choose "Lens Flare." Position the flare on the bulb in the preview and set the brightness to make the bulb look slightly reflective. Click "OK."
-
7
Go to the bottom of the "Layers" palette and click on the "FX" button. From the options, choose "Outer Glow." In the dialog that appears. Choose the color you want for the glow. Also, set the "Spread" and "Size." Click "OK."
