How to Mount a Scope to a Santa Fe Mauser

The "Santa Fe" Mauser is a M98 rifle imported by Golden State Arms Corporation of Pasadena, California during the fifties and sixties. This company has since gone out of business. These rifles were surplus Mauser rifles with replaced stocks to appear more like hunting rifles. You can place a scope on your Santa Fe Mauser by replacing the standard rear sight with a weaver-style scope mount and using weaver-style rings on your scope.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the retention pin on the left side of your rear sight. Put your pin punch against the retention pin and use your hammer to lightly tap the pin out. Once you have removed the pin, lift the sight out of the sight base.

    • 2

Put the bottom of your scope mount into the groove on top of the sight base. Insert the mount retention screw into, and through, the retention pin hole and secure the screw with the provided nut. You have attached the weaver scope mount.

    • 3

Loosen the ring retention screws at the bases of the scope rings and widen the mounting bracket. Place the scope onto the weaver mount and place the sides of the mounting bracket over the edges of the weaver mount. Tighten the screws, securing the scope to your rifle.
