Attach colorful beads to the Native American costume

An American Indian attire is an excellent costume idea for young girls. Whether it is for a Thanksgiving pageant, Halloween or just for fun, making an American Indian-inspired costume is easy, inexpensive and can be an educational project for you and your child. With the right accessories, your daughter will look the part of Pocahontas or any charming Native American girl. Since this costume doesn't require any sewing, it should only take you a couple of hours to complete. You can purchase headbands and moccasins to pair with the costume for an authentic look.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold the material in half diagonally, bringing the shortest corners together. Use measuring tape to find the exact center of the fabric. Mark with a fabric pen.

    • 2

Cut a hole in the center of the fabric large enough to fit your child's head. Pin the two sides together and cut a half moon out of the fabric, creating an oval-shaped head opening.

    • 3

Cut thin strips about 2 inches to 3 inches long around the edges of the poncho, creating fringe. Place colorful beads on some of the fringe strips and knot the bottom strips so the beads stay in place.

    • 4

Dress your child in colors similar to that of the faux suede. Brown leggings and a brown tank top, for example, would blend in perfectly while providing extra warmth.

    • 5

Drape the poncho over your daughter's head. Belt the poncho at her waist to create a more fitted look and to keep the poncho in place. You can use a brown leather belt, or simply cut an extra strip of the faux suede.
