A real cave girl may have lived in a cave like this one.

For a Halloween party, many little girls want to wear a dreamy princess costume or a cute animal-inspired ensemble. These costumes can be expensive and high-maintenance. If you're looking for a do-it-your-own, budget-friendly costume for your little girl -- and she doesn't mind looking grungy for a few hours -- then a cave girl costume might fit the bill. Making a cave girl costume is so easy all it takes is some animal print fabric and rudimentary sewing skills.

  • Animal print fabric
  • Scissors
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread
  • Bone necklace

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length from the girl's shoulders down to just below her knees. Cut out this length of fabric from a 45-inch wide fabric.

    • 2

Fold the fabric in half with the raw edges together. Wrap the fabric around the girl's body. Take the two loose ends of the fabric and tie it into a knot over one shoulder.

    • 3

With the raw edges together, pin the fabric together just below the girls armpit. Untie the loose ends of the fabric and remove it from the girl's body carefully. Sew the sides edges together from the bottom edge all the way to the pin. This will serve as the arm hole.

    • 4

Cut a jagged edge into the bottom of the dress for a cave-like look.

    • 5

Sew together fabric wrist cuffs from any leftover fabric scraps. These can be used as rugged "bracelets" for the girl for added effect.

    • 6

Put on the costume and add a bone necklace. Go barefoot or wear flip flops.

    • 7

Brush the girl's hair into a high pony tail. Stick the toy bone through the elastic holding the pony tail in place. Comb the girl's hair backwards to give messy volume to the ponytail. Alternatively, create a messy hairstyle by scrunching the girl's hair and spraying the hair with hairspray.
