How to Make a Child's Coin Purse
Little girls love to emulate their mothers by carrying their own purses to hold coins and other special objects. Rather than buy a child a purse every time she wants one, let her help you make a purse instead. It will hold more meaning if the child assists in its creation, and she can embellish the front of it to suit her own tastes. Whether the child is modern or old-fashioned, you can help her create just the right look.

Instructions

Plastic Coin Purse
-
1
Cut the bottoms off two 20-ounce plastic soda bottles, making the cut about 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the bottom.
-
2
Rinse the bottle bottoms thoroughly and dry.
-
-
3
Stitch the zipper into place at the cut line. Use a craft punch to make holes in the plastic, or use a heated needle to melt through the plastic. Stitch through the holes to affix the zipper. Close the zipper to join the two sides together.
Doily Coin Purse
-
4
Place two doilies with their wrong sides together. Stitch around the doilies just above the scallop line, about three-quarters of the way. Leave the top open.
-
5
Cut away the top section of one of the doilies, leaving 1 inch to turn under. Use fray check to prevent unraveling. Turn the edge under and press it into place.
-
6
Measure the circumference of the doilies at their seam line and add 1/2 inch. Cut two circles of interfacing and two of the lining.
-
7
Iron the interfacing to the back side of the lining.
-
8
Stitch the two pieces of lining together with right sides facing. Leave the top open so you can turn the fabric.
-
9
Place the lining inside the purse and position into place. Cut one side to match the doily top. Pin the lining into place, raw edges hidden, and stitch into place by hand, straight across the front and around the back flap.
-
10
Sew a snap to the inside of the flap and the front of the purse, using embroidery floss to affix it. Add a decorative button or flower on the flap.
-
11
Sew on a beaded handle or ribbon.
