A Step-by-Step on How to Thread the Singer Sewing Machine Model 7462
The Singer 7462 Touch & Sew is a basic, heavy-duty sewing machine with 30 stitch patterns, push-button back stitch and an automatic one-step buttonhole function. To access these features, it's necessary to thread the machine in the proper manner. Singer includes an automatic needle threader and a convenient top-loading, drop-in bobbin to make the threading process more convenient. Despite these handy additions, threading a sewing machine can be confusing, especially if the instructions in the manual are limited.
Instructions

1
Place a spool of thread on the horizontal spool pin followed by the spool cap. The spool cap prevents thread tangling.
-
2
Raise the presser foot by flipping the lever just to the right of the needle bar. The needle bar is the metal rod that holds the needle and the presser foot.
-
-
3
Turn the hand wheel in a counterclockwise motion until the needle reaches its highest position.
-
4
Grasp the tail end of the thread and pull it to the first thread guide, which is located to the left of the thread spool. The first thread guide is a piece of metal that has two stacked circular pieces (tension discs) on the right and a slit on the left. Hook the thread into the small notch on the thread guide, just to the right of the tension discs. Draw the thread under the slit then bring it up through the center of the slit. Pull the thread through the next thread guide, located directly to the left of the first thread guide.
-
5
Locate the vertical thread guide on the front of the machine; it is shaped like a "U." Note the take-up lever that's located at the top of the left vertical thread guide. The take-up lever is the metal piece that carries the thread up and down when the machine operates. Using a quick motion, take the thread down the right vertical thread guide and then back up the left vertical thread guide. When you get to the top of the vertical thread guide, slide the thread into the take-up lever from left to right so it's seated in the slot. Continue by drawing the thread back down through the same thread guide until you reach the first needle bar thread guide, located about halfway down the needle bar.
-
6
Pull the thread into the needle guide from back to front using the opening on the right-hand side. Put the thread in the second needle bar thread guide in the same manner.
-
7
Pull down the needle threader, located to the left of the needle bar, and hook the thread in the metal piece from left to right. With a quick motion, let go of the needle threader allowing the threader to guide the thread tail through the eye of the needle. Before you begin to sew, pull a few inches of thread through the eye of the needle.
