String noise can become annoying whether you are in a pristine recording environment or rehearsing with your band. You can reduce bass guitar string noise the same way you reduce string noise on a regular guitar. The main goal of which is to reduce the friction between your fingers and the bass strings. In doing so, you will reduce the amount of string noise generated while playing your bass guitar.

Instructions

1. Clean your strings and fret-board. A clean fret-board and set of strings will provide a smoother playing surface that cuts down on bass guitar string noise.

2. Put new strings on your bass guitar. Old strings can get worn out and rusty, making them much noisier than a new set of strings.

3. Put coated strings on your bass guitar. The coating will reduce the friction between your fingers and reduce string noise. In addition to this, the coating will allow the strings to last longer without tarnishing, which will provide a longer, noise-free, life.

4. Apply a guitar string lubricant, such as Finger-Ease or Fast Fret, to your bass guitar strings. The lubricant will reduce the friction between your fingers and the strings and cut down on string noise generated while playing.
